Topographical series
of, relating to, or concerned with the artistic representation of a particular locality:
I create seemingly abstract compositions, derived from aerial snapshots of various major cities. The choice of the colors, materials, and intricate arrangement of each composition express qualities specific to the city it portrays. The paintings’ topographic surfaces investigate aesthetics and visual language in association with a particular locality. In essence, they are portraits of places. They are experiential and experimental.
My first Topographical project is Cairo - a series that consists of about 32 mixed pieces based on Google Earth aerial snap shots of Cairo. I am currently working on New York - NY. I expect to be done with the NY Topographical by the end of 2011 and afterwards Id like to go to China - get acquainted with traditional Chinese art forms and work on perhaps a Hong Kong Topographical that would be called "made in china".
Free style and Style Pacotille:
I make Free Style paintings - Style Pacotille. Pacotille is a French word that means trashy or shabby. Like fake jewlery, a torn up pair of jeans, or a grungy night at a youth hostel; Style Pacotille refers to my freestyle paintings because they tend to have a rough feel to them.
My favorite material to use is Plastic (x).
My favorite paints to use are car paints.
My favorite mix is a combination of inks, concentrated water colors, and car paints.
A lot of my art has detailed plastic work. Some I cut in my studio with small tools – but most I laser cut using the school of Architecture laser cuter (ideally used to make precise architecture models).
All my pieces come framed and ready to hang. Some pieces have box frames, others have colored plastic frames, and few are not framed but mounted and ready for display. I do that because the frame is an integral part of the painting – how it is displayed and the color of its contour is part of it.
